Matthew 10

hey quest! so recently i have been reading through Matthew and have learned so much. i always kinda thought i knew the gospels because we had always learned about them in church so i sort of avoided them in my reading, but i started reading Matthew and was totally blown away by how much more there was to learn and how little i really knew from the basic stories i had heard. i encourage you all to read them or to read a book you think you know front and back because you can always grow and learn more about the lord.
i also wanted to share something that really stuck out to me. chapter 10 is talking about Jesus sending out his disciples. he tells them that he wants them to share the message and then he says...

"i am sending you out like sheep among wolves. therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged by synagogues. on my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and and to the gentiles. but when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. at that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the spirit of your father speaking through you."

i think this really spoke to me because although in the story Jesus is speaking to the 12 disciples, we are disciples of Christ. i think we all sometimes hold back on talking to someone about our faith or sharing the word with them because we worry we wont know what to say or how to say it. i can only imagine how freaked out the disciples were when Jesus was giving them this giant pep talk but it was what they were called to do and its what we were called to do. but we all no that its not as easy as it sounds and a lot of us struggle with finding ways to share the gospel. but like he says we need to be on our guard, and it wont be easy. people will reject it and question us but he will be with us through it all and we should never worry about what to say or how to say it because the lord will speak through us.
he tells the disciples to go to the lost sheep and proclaim his message but as his disciples we need to be doing the same.

i love you and miss you all. keep posting and encouraging each other and your friends.

  1. JOCELYN!!! First off I love and miss u! 2nd off love it! I have been reading the gospels as well and its been soooo good! Its just like you said we can always learn more! We can never hear the gospel enough! One of my friends and I were talking about this and how we need to hear the gospel daily! So that we can really believe it, share it and live it! You are so right we have to let the Lord speak through us! He leads and we follow! My prayer for you and us is that we go where He wants us to go, do what He wants us to do and say what He wants us to say! He has us in His hands :) Keep it up girlfriend!

  2. moriah!!!!! i love you and miss you too! what you said is so true i never really thought about it that way, but we should hear the gospel daily because how can we share it like the lord tells us to if we dont know it? and like you said, he will lead us, the lord has really showed me recently that he is the one that makes my paths and guides me everyday. its very humbling to know that im not in control. ive realized that if i try to live like christ and follow his comands he will work through me, and nothing i can try to do by my self can ever compare to the work of the lord.

  3. Jocelyn! i love that post. What really stuck out to me is how we have to be "shrewed as snakes and as innocent as doves." This is really cool. I've been thinking a lot about the gospels just cause they seem so boring sometimes, ive grown up hearing these stories and i hear them every morning in chapel but i guess this just inspired me to look at them through a different light. "nothing i can try to do by my self can ever compare to the work of the lord."-so very true. Thanks for your post
