Giving Glory to God, Acts 3 and 4

Hey, Quest!
This is Erin from Session 8. You know how people are always talking about how whatever we do, we owe our success to God, and that everything we do gives glory to him, and that we need to give him the praise...Well, I was reading Acts last night and that message really hit home for me.

You see, Acts 3 starts out with this amazing story about how Peter cured a crippled man. The man, obviously, was jumping and running and clinging to the man who cured him, so a crowd started to form.

"When Peter saw this, he addressed the people, 'You Israelites, why are you amazed at this, and why do you look so intently at us as if we had made him walk by our own power or piety?" (Acts 3:12). I love this verse, because I thought it was a really good example of how we can't do anything without God, and that we owe him all of our success...without it sounding cheesy and hard to understand. But, wait! There's more...

Peter continued on to tell all the people who were looking on about Jesus: about how they had killed him, but God had lifted him up, and about how the prophets had spoken of him. He called them to "Repent, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away." (Acts 3:19). And many did. Acts 4:4 says, "Many of those who heard the word came to believe and the number of men grew to about five thousand."

I love this story, because it shows us how to be humble, how God uses us and our lives to bring glory to himself, and how if you speak of him boldly, people will listen to you and believe.

If you haven't read this story yet, I encourage you to do so! Be humble, and give glory to God!

God bless,
Erin W.

  1. Hey Erin, great post!

You mentioned that if we speak of God boldly, then people will listen and believe. I think that has been one of my biggest problems in the past...I've always tried sharing Christ with others, but sometimes, more often than not, I wouldn't be confident in what I was telling them if I knew they disagreed with me. I think when we're faced with people who don't believe in God or don't want to, we forget to be bold and we forget to be confident. I think if we pray to God for strength and confidence, we will be able to proclaim His word BOLDLY, and more people will listen.
