SHINE Your LIGHT

I'm just arriving home after a night at my relative's house. I got to see my uncle, aunt, cousins, and we had a big cookout. We soon got onto the topic of ONE of my cousins whose life got way off track. We were very close childhood friends, but slowly he began to lose focus of what mattered in his life. He got into bad things. did bad things. even got in trouble with the law. The cousin I loved to talk to suddenly wouldn't talk to me anymore.

At the family get together tonight, I started to think. WHAT HAVE I DONE TO SHINE LIGHT INTO HIS WORLD THAT IS BECOMING DARKER AND DARKER EACH DAY?

nothing. absolutely nothing. I've stood back and watched this happen. I decided that while I have my spiritual accountability partner, i should be also looking out for my family. Tonight I have promised myself that once a week I will write him a letter. A short letter just saying hi. I want him to know that although he has disappointed people in his life, I still believe in him and I love him more than he could ever realize! I want my letters to be a rock in his life that he can look forward to.

PLEASE LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY THAT FAMILY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT! We are there for each other to pick them up when they are down. I encourage you to send a letter, email, or even call a family member TODAY who needs a to hear a friendly voice.

  1. Lauren that's so awesome. Small things such as letters can make the biggest impact! The Lord is totally gonna use you in your cousin's life, and I can't wait to see how he does. You are so right that family is super important, and i think (at least for me) we take that for granted a lot. Very good encouragement and reminder!! great post!! :)

  2. Lauren, your post just made my day. Seeing someone work so hard to love people who have made bad decisions is so inspiring to me. God is definitely going to make a difference in your cousin's life through you...I have a feeling! So don't give up and keep working at it. Thank you so much for posting!

Talk about what you got out of it, what challenged you, questions you have, and any other cool stuff about what you read in scripture.
