angels

hi quest.
so i haven't posted in a while, and i'm sorry. whenever i post it's never about what we're reading but yeah. i hope its okay with y'all! i'd love feedback. please. anyways, a couple weeks ago i reserached angels, like, a lot about them- and i realized here is a place i could share what i've learned and more i found about them. i've always loved the idea of angels- i thought they were so cool, but not, like, worshipping them, but that they're just really neat beings. then i realized i didn't really know much about them...and wanted to know whatever i could! so i went to the Bible- and found lots of what it teaches about angels!
Angels were created before God created earth as good angels made to glorify God- Job 38:4-7, Psalm 148:2-5, Genesis 1:31, Nehemiah 9:6, Colossians 1:16, 2 Peter 3:8, Hebrews 1:6
An angel rebellion, leaded by Satan came against God. Satan wanted to be greater than God and 1/3 of the angels followed him and became demons- Ezekiel 28:11-19, 2 Peter 2:4, Revelation 10, 4:11, 12:3-4
Holy angels live in heaven and when assigend a task by God, they leave and do the work on earth then go back to heaven- Isaiah 6:1-6, Daniel 7:10, Hebrews 12:22
Angels are personal and individual beings with minds, emotions, desires, and wills- 2 Samuel 14:20, Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 22:8-9, Daniel 9:21-22, Isaiah 14:12-15, Job 38:7, 1 Peter 1:12
Angels are spirit beings, they aren't physical, and invisible but can become visible to us; therefore, we're not usually aware of them working around us- Hebrews 1:14, 2 Kings 6:17
Angels can take on human appearance when their task calls for it- Genisis 18:1-21, Hebrews 13:2
They're not present everywhere like God is- they move from one place to another- Daniel 9:20-23
They're really powerful, mighty, superior to man, but inferior to God- Psalm 103:20, Psalm 8:3-5, 1Thesselonians 1:7, Daniel 9:21-22, Revelation 14:6, Mathew 24:36, Jude 9
They're set apart from sin and set apart unto God to do His bidding- Job 5:1, Psalm 89:7
Angels are immortal even if they were created, basically once they were made, they'll never stop existing. ever! Luke 20:36
They're innumerable, uncountable, however you want to say it, they're are a LOT and at a fixed number- Revelation 5:11, Daniel 7:10, Matthew 22:30
They're called 'ministering spirits'. Meaning, they're spirit servants that help us, people, who are gonna inherit salvation, but they can take physical form, whether human or just something otherworldly- Hebrews 1:14, Genesis 18:1-19, Joshua 5:13-14, Mark 16:5-8, Luke 1:11-12, Matthew 28:2-4
There are several descirptions of physical appearances of them in the bible- Exodus 25:20, Isaiah 6:1-4,Matthew 28:3, Daniel 10:5-6, Ezekiel 1:5-28
Angels service takes many forms, like being used by God in answering prayers, bringing announcements and warnings to God's people, giving encouragement, providing protection, giving guidance, providing deliverance, and caring for believers at death- Acts 10:3-33, 12:7-11, 27:23-24, Luke 1:11-13, 16:22 Psalm 91:11, Genisis 19:17
Angels are organized by ranks (thrones, powers, rulers, authorities, dominions), but the detail of these ranks aren't revealed to us- Ephessians 1:20-21, Collosians 1:16
Among unbelievers, angels restrain wickedness, announce God's judgments, execute God's judgements, and in the end times cast 'into the blazing furnace'- Genisis 19:1-15, Revelation 4:6-20, 5:11-14, 14:7-10, 16:1-18, Acts 12:23, Matthew 13:37-43
In the afterlife, Christians will judge against angels- 1 Corinthians 6:3

Anyways, there's some jazz about angels from the bible that I wanted to share cause I think they're real awesome and would love feedback and want to know more about them!

The scripture and some references are from the ESV Study Bible and The Apologetics Study Bible, and recommend this website for more Scriptural references about angels, I didn't use any from it though-http://www.gotquestions.org/questions_angels.html

  2. thanks evi (:
but i don't really get that part of the post ("being judged against angels")...someone want to explain? and evi that's so amazing how you've found that angels can often take different forms - even physical forms! there's been a few times in my life when i swear God had sent me an angel to answer my prayers. i used to just overlook those kind of moments and think that i was just imagining them. but i wasn't. God was answering my prayers! thanks again for helping me realize that. (:

  3. 1) evi this is so awesome! I am so encouraged by this and I feel like I know so much more.

    2) evi said we will "judge against the angels" not that we will be judged with them but that the Lord wants us to actually judge them... so sweet.

  5. This is actually a very interesting post, considering I had a huge discussion about this at a church camp before quest :) Very cool.

I do have a question though, if anyone wants to help clear this up a bit...demons? you hear stories of people being "possesed by demons" and what not. Typically, as christians we view that kind of stuff as witchcraft and a supernatural viewpoint. but, considering that demons exist (from when the angels rebelled), and that they can take on many different forms. Is that "supernatural" view on life something we should shut out and discourage? or is there some biblical truth in that?
