ANSWER!?

Hey quest heres a question for you. in 2 kings 5, it talks about how Elijah told this man, with leprosy to go and wash in the Jordan 7 times and your skin will be restored. my question is, why did he have to do it seven times? why couldnt he just have done it once?? i want your opinion! please!
i love you! and praying for you, also i love how hayley put what she needed us to pray for, if you could tell me how i could start praying for you in specific ways that would be so awesome. i want to know how i can pray for you!

-love you lots
MADI!

  1. That is a good question :) i dont have scripture to back me up or anything...but I have discussed this once at a bible study, and I think it might have just been a way of checking this mans faith. I'm sure God could have easily healed him the first time...but how simple is that? He could have stepped into the water thinking "maybe this will work, here goes..." BUT if he had to do it 7 times, imagine how much more faith that would have required, each time depending on the Lord a little more...It's kind of like the marching around jericho for 7 days thing before the walls came down (ever notice how the number 7 is used a lot? weird...). The longer we have to keep persisting in following Gods commands, the harder it gets, and the more faith we need to keep going. I kind of take this as a lesson to our christian walks...my first few weeks of school have been rough, my schedule is not going how I have wanted it to (I trained all summer for two courses: band and swimming...and now I can't be in either one...aka prayer request ;) haha) but I know that God has a plan for me...and I have to have persistance in following his commands, like getting up every morning to read one chapter in Acts.

  2. good question madi! i think it might have to do with 7 being a holy/perfect number. i dont know details on this or why it is, but it is called the number of completion, the holy and perfect number. 7 is used a lot in revelation as well.
