Question.

Joe, i loved what ou had to say..But i have a question and i want everyones feedback.

Is sickness, made my God, as in: did God make the man blind or did he just use his blindness to glorify him?

i beileve sickness is of the Devil and the enemy has put sickness here on earth to hold us back, but God uses our sickness for his glory, by healing. thats just my opinion, i could be verrry wrong
ive looked at different bible verses about it and i just want to see what you come up with, either comment or text me or message me on facebook, i wanna hear what you think. :]

  1. One part of your post is correct: God used the man's blindness to glorify Himself. God uses ALL things for His glory, even bad things. God can use something like death or blindness or even the Holocaust to bring Himself glory. God even uses HELL to bring Himself glory-- because it shows that we need a God to save us, that there is a better way (HIM!) and in order for our need for God to be made known, there needs to be something in contrast to eternity with God (Hell). Crazy, huh?

However, since this man was born blind, it makes me wonder if God creates us with impediments or malfunctions. It is hard for me to believe that God would create a human that wasn't made perfect or in His image, but at the same time, would He? Or does Satan intervene, even in the WOMB, to blemish us even before BIRTH? I don't know. It boggles my mind.

  3. I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, that sometime God creates pain to bring people closer to Him, to get people to chase after Him. I'm not saying this is a frequent thing though. Just a thought...

  4. yeah...but then there is the "god is love" thing. If God is love why would he create pain??

  5. I agree with all of you too...but I just can't decide if God actually creates the pain and suffering Himself. For some reason, I don't think so. Just my opinion. I personally think that it is all the doing of Satan, and God just uses this pain and suffering that Satan has created to bring people closer to Him (like you all said), bringing His name even more glory. So I agree with you on that last point, but does he really create the pain and suffering himself?! Hmmm...

  6. Yeah, it's kinda foggy to me. Like, what Whitley brought up talking about John 9, about the blind man. Did Satan make him blind at birth or was it God? I'm not completely sure. The thing is though, if God did it, he did it only temporarily. He gave the man his vision, but he never took anything from him. It's all so complicated...

  8. This has been a question that i have been asking myself for many many many many years. I was born with tourettes syndrome and was made fun of it throughout my elementary and middle school years. So i always asked myself why would he burden me with this? I've still been searching for the answer.

  9. well i think that you were born with it but God is going to work through it and have his hand in it and use it to glorify him, and you can use it as part of your testimony....

  10. Yea, I agree. I don't think that God purposely gives people things like that or causes any type of pain, but what He will do is use this situation to inspire others to follow Him in one way or another, or maybe even change to somebody for the better (like my story below, if you keep reading). Something good always comes out of things like that. I have found that God seems to see the suffering in this world and somehow twist that suffering into a positive thing...

Before my grandpa died this past January, I was having some serious self esteem issues. When he died, I asked myself, "WHY would God take my grandpa away from me at a time like this, especially only a few years after He took my uncle away?" Later, I finally realized that we all only have one life to live, and it's not worth it to live with a low self esteem (like I had before my grandpa's death). It's not worth it to live with insecurities. Since then, I have found (almost) my true friends who make me feel good about myself - who lift me up instead of bringing me down. Since then, I have had a higher self esteem and have pretty much led a better life, even closer to God than before. See what happened there?? I was suffering so much because of my low self esteem before and then because of my grandpa's death later on. BUT, God made this situation a positive one! In my life, that's what he seems to always do! (: Even though I did experience a lot of suffering before and during my grandpa's death, I am now a much, much stronger person. I see these type of situations as God's "learning lessons" for us. Good things coming out of bad things. I hope I'm making some sense.

  11. GUYSSSSS LISTEN TO THIS!!!!!!1
God will not bring about sickness, but he WILL allow the devil to use his tools to try and break someone. That's a lot of what Job talks about. It mentions that Satan can go to and fro from heaven and hell asking if he can try and deter people from God. That's why a lot of people consider being attacked a sort of blessing. It's like God believes in your faith so much that he will allow it to be put to the test...

this is what someone said to me when i asked, i think its so coool. but in James 1:2 it talks about how we should rejoyce when we are tested, it makes sence to me now...what do you think

  12. Oh girl, ever since you talked to me about it, I've been wrestling with the sickness question. Your perspective is awesome- every one that has commented on this brings a new point to the table and is so wise! A question that comes to my mind whenever I think about Job and that situation is that I wonder if Satan HAS to go to God asking to try people? Like the predestination thing- did God have to been asked by Satan to do something to a nonbeliever? As in, they became sick, but how could the sickness be testing their faith even if it CAN end up bringing God glory?

  13. Madi I've never thought of it that way! That's amazing! I'm SO glad you told us that!

I love how you said that God believes in some people's faith so much that He will allow it to be put to the test. It's as if He knows we can handle it, but He's just testing us to see how strong we really are. I'll be sure to think of it as a blessing rather than a curse next time I have doubts about something that has to do with my faith. (:
